IMBeR International Project Office – China
IMBeR is a core project of the Scientific Committee for Oceanic Research (SCOR) and Future Earth and has focused on integrated marine biosphere research (IMBeR) on the global and regional levels and worked toward the benefit of society. In the year 2020. the IMBeR established two international project offices in Shanghai (IPO-China) and Halifax (IPO-Canada) to better accommodate the growing needs of its community worldwide. On ECNU campus, Jan. 2020
IMBeR and ECNU agreed that ECNU will support the IMBeR IPO-China for a period of five years commencing from the date of this agreement on 16 Jauanry 2020. The ECNU President, Prof. QIAN Xuhong, and Prof. Carol Robinson, Chair of the IMBeR Scientific Steering Committee signed the MoU and jointly unveiled the IMBeR International Project Office plaque in the presence of all participants. Integrated Marine Biosphere Research (IMBeR) previously known as Integrated Marine Biogeochemical and Ecosystem Research, IMBER was initiated by the IGBP/SCOR Ocean Futures Planning Committee in 2005 as an international science project with a focus on marine biogeochemical cycles and ecosystems. To promote the implementation of IMBER research and implementation strategy in the Asia-Pacific Region, Julie Hall, Chair of IMBeR SSC (2004-2010), and Chen Qun, Vice-President ECNU signed the MOU to establish the IMBeR Regional Project Office at ECNU in 2010. Eileen Hofmann, Chair of IMBeR SSC (2011-2016) announced the official operation of the IMBER Regional Project Office in March, 2011.

During its first three years, the IMBER RPO has made a significant contribution to the implementation of IMBER research and has brought significant benefits to the internationalization of State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research at ECNU. IMBER and ECNU agree to continue their collaboration. Eileen Hofmann (IMBeR SSC Chair 2010 - 2015) and Ziqiang Zhu (Vice-President of ECNU) signed the MOU on behalf of IMBeR and ECNU in 2013.
