ECNU confers Honorary Professorship to Prof. Samina Kidwai

  On July 19th, 2024, the appointment ceremony of East China Normal University Honorary Professor Samina Kidwai was held in SKLEC Building, Minhang Campus. Mr. Yong Zhou, Deputy Director of International Cooperation & Exchange Division, and professors from the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research (SKLEC) attended the ceremony.
  
  Prof. Qing He, Director of SKLEC, warmly welcomed Prof. Samina Kidwai and thanked her to play an important role in advancing research and cooperation between the two countries. Prof. Jing Zhang and Prof Gi-Hoon Hong briefly introduced Professor Samina Kidwai’s distinguished achievements and her long partnerships with China.

  In the acceptance speech, Prof. Samina Kidwai accepted the appointment, and said that she felt much honored to be a member of ECNU. Then she highly spoke of ECNU and shared her story with China, especially with SKLEC/ECNU. “Our success has made us more confident and our challenges have made us stronger. Both have made us grow” said Prof. Samina Kidwai with sincerity.

About Professor Samina Kidwai
  Professional Marine Sciences research experience of over 29 years, 27 years at NIO, with the last 3 years as the Director General (CEO) of the National Institute of Oceanography, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of Pakistan. Her research interests include Biological Oceanography, (zoo)plankton ecology, bio-physical interactions and coastal deep sea interface and its effects on plankton ecology, food-web dynamics using biomarkers, developing Marine Bio-Geographical Information Systems (Marine BioGIS) for Pakistan and for the Northwest Arabian Sea, island and deltaic ecosystems and the impact/resilience to climatic variability on marine ecosystems, Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). Member of the NIO team in several international research initiatives and national consultancy projects. Interested in Capacity Building & Strengthening in Ocean Sciences for Pakistan, northwest Indian ocean region and young researchers and Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOP). 
  Contributor to Pakistan preparedness for international programs such as the UN SDG14, Blue Economy, UN OCEAN DECADE program 2021-2030 & IIOE-2. National Representative in the UNESCO IOC, IOCINDIO and elected member to the Executive Council Group IV of UNESCO IOC. Involved in International Scientific diplomacy and national coordination for progress in oceanography. Visiting scientist in several countries. Represented Pakistan at several International official delegation. Recipient of YOUNG SCIENTIST CERTIFICATE OF COMMENDATION IHDP, IGBP, WCRP, Washington, USA, Best oral presentation at Islamic Network Oceanographic Commission (INOC), Lebanon; First Prize for best speaker at the SAARC “Training on Multidisciplinary Oceanographic Observation for Coastal Zone Management at Goa, India. Coordinating two international collaborations of NIO with China. Committee member of the Regional Whale Shark Conservation in the Arabian Region Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Qatar. Lead scientist in several projects (National and International projects).
