A ceremony was held for the Foundation of Comparative Studies between the Yangtze and the Nile Delta, at SKLEC Oct. 23, 2016. Director/Professor of SKLEC Shu Gao and Director/Professor of International Exchange Division Yunxuan Zhou were present for this inauguration.

In the past decade, Professor Zhongyuan Chen of SKLEC has been actively collaborated with Professor Alaa Salem of Kafrelsheihk University, Egypt to study the environmental change of the two deltas, sponsored by the bilateral governmental programme.  In 2016, Professor Chen’s team is successfully approved by China NSF to further this comparative study, focusing on the Holocene climate change and sea level fluctuations, and the human adaptation to environmental change of the two deltas . This founded delta center is aiming at not only scientific research, but also new talent cultivation.
