The 3rd SKLEC International Consultation Meeting and Workshop on Estuarine and Coastal Research was held in ECNU

On October 19, the 3rd SKLEC International Consultation Meeting was held in ECNU. The International Consultation Panel of SKLEC was established in 2012, and the first and second meeting was held on October 2012 and October 2014, respectively. More than 20 international scholars from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Estonia attended this meeting.
Prof. Shu Gao, Director of SKLEC, introduced the present situation and future work plans of SKLEC.  The participants proposed valuable comments and suggestions on how to apply cooperation projects, young scientists’ career development and the graduated students’education.
 
 
From October 20 to 21, the 3rd Workshop on Estuarine and Coastal Research was held in ECNU. Prof. Ian Townend, fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering, presented the Historical variations in the lower Yangtze estuary. Prof. Christopher F. D'Elia, dean of the college of the Coast and Environment of Louisiana State University, talked about coastal research and education at LSU: international perspectives. Prof. Marcel Stive, the Chair of coastal Engineering of Delft University of Technology, introduced Coastal and estuarine mangroves in the Mekong Delta. Prof. Carol Robinson, Chair of IMBER SSC, introduced about the current progress of IMBER program and Shelf Sea Biogechemistry. Prof. Michael Lazar, head of department of marine Geosciences of Haifa University, introduced the human adaptation to ancient coastal changes at the Mediterranean coast. Totally, 25 outstanding presentations were given, with deep discussions on hot topics of estuarine and coastal research.
