Postdoctoral Research Opportunity -Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography in Old Dominion University

The Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography, Old Dominion University has four ongoing NSF-funded projects (Co-PIs: E. Hofmann, J. Klinck, and M. Dinniman) focused on various aspects of interactions between the ocean, ecosystems, and cryosphere of Antarctic coastal and continental shelf systems. This postdoctoral position is associated with these projects and potentially involves analysis of data sets acquired from tagged marine mammals and use of these data with regional ocean circulation models, implementation of a lower trophic level model in the regional circulation models, and analysis and modeling of ocean interactions with sea ice and ice shelves. Specific projects will depend on the interest and expertise of theperson hired.  Applicants should have a Ph.D. in marine science or equivalent; must have experience with computer systems and languages, numerical circulation modeling (ROMS experience desirable), quantitative data analysis methods, knowledge of physical oceanography of high latitude systems, and scientific writing.  The applicant is expected to prepare research results for publication in peer-reviewed scientific journals, make presentations at national and international scientific meetings, and attendproject-related workshops.  The initial appointment is for one year with a possible renewal for a second year, pending satisfactory review of each year's results.

Consideration of applicants will begin on August 31, 2012 and will continue until the position is filled.
