Job Opportunity in the research corporation of the University of Hawaii

Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the School of Ocean and Earth Science and Technology (SOEST), located in Honolulu, Hawaii.Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,189/Mon.

DUTIES:Participate in federally funded research programs.Provide laboratory support to research projects in Geochemistry, including preparation of field and laboratory equipment, participation in fieldwork, performing measurements in the lab and field, ordering materials, construction of new analytical instruments, basic laboratory maintenance, data processing and reduction, and related tasks for the principal investigator (PI) and group. Assists undergraduate, graduate students, and postdocs with related projects.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION:Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Earth Sciences, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or closely related science. EXPERIENCE:Three to five (3-5) years of experience in laboratory work in instrumentation, Geochemistry, or Engineering. One to two (1-2) years of experience with gas chromatography.ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:Knowledge of electronics. Knowledge of Mac, and Windows operating systems. Familiarity with the use of spreadsheets (e.g. MS Excel).Knowledge of the methods, materials, procedures, and techniques used in oceanographic research, particularly gas chromatographic techniques, sampling, and analysis. Able to conduct trace gas sampling and measurements in the field and at sea under harsh environmental, weather and sea conditions.Must have good oral and written communications skills. Ability to interact well with other personnel in the university, office, lab, and ship environments.PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:In good health and able to work effectively for extended periods in the field or at sea. Able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Earth Sciences, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or closely related science. Familiarity with LabVIEW. Machine Shop certification.Experience working in an academic or research setting.
